Do you fit in?
Is there anything different about you?
One of the most desired things in this life as people is to fit in. We want to wear the right things, drive the right cars, have the right house, in the right neighborhood, we want to say the right things, and we just don’t want people to think we are weird and stupid.
I cant count how many times I was so embarrassed because I didn’t have or know something. When I first bought a house I was so proud to be a home owner. But then when some of my friends and family bought houses and they were bigger, nicer, or in better areas. That joy and pride of life dropped to embarrassment. That is just one example of so many times of feeling not as good, not fitting in.
Have you ever been around people who are always sad or mad about something? That is such an easy mood to fall into.
We all want to fit in, but the bible says in Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
What does this mean?
We shouldn’t try to have a good job, have a nice car, say the right things, own a great house, have enough money to well…
No we should strive to have good things. But what Paul, in Romans, is saying is that we need to not let those things rule our lives.
When I was embarrassed that I didn’t have a big or nice enough house; I was sinning. I was jealous of the things others had.
And That Is What Paul Is Talking About!
The world would say that loving money and things is what life is all about. Having more and more and more and more until you need a bigger house to hold it all and then get more so you need to have a storage container to hold it…and so on…
There are so many mindsets that are normal in the worlds eyes.
We need to renew our minds daily by prayer and reading God’s Word. That way we will be able to know what His will and plan for our lives.
I have found that fitting into the plan that God has for my life is much more fulfilling then trying to fit in with worlds thinking.
